2016 CHINESE NEW YEAR FEAST @ GENTING PALACE RESTAURANT, RESORTS WORLD GENTING, MALAYSIA

Very soon, the whole nationwide of Malaysia will be celebrating the auspicious 2016 Monkey Year. And what’s better to commemorate the special day with your loved ones other than to first ushering the prosperous time over a sumptuous spread of Chinese New Year specially crafted by Chef Jacky Yap, at none other than the esteemed Genting Palace Restaurant, under the huge conglomerate of Resorts World Genting , Malaysia.

Truth to be told, Chef Jacky is certainly a gleeful companion to have, not only the culinary maestro is very affable and down-to-earth, he also has a very good sense of humour that got everyone around the table often burst with laughter as he conveys his insights wittily when sharing his experience. Hmm, seems like it gonna be a little tough if I ever try to coax him into sharing some secret recipes, hehe. Nonetheless, the place is literally filled up with merriment throughout our dining session.

Without further ado, let’s welcome our very first and also quintessential plate to have in signifying the rosy occasion.

LUCKY SALMON YEE SANG (MYR 138)
Juicy fresh salmons to spice up your crispy, vibrant strips further. Remember to toss it higher for better health and wealth!

DOUBLED-BOILED CHICKEN SOUP WITH AMERICAN GINSENG (MYR 68)
Salubrious soup packed with all cherished essence from the chicken through double-boiling with ladies’ fave, fish collagen (‘fa kaw’, a premium type of fish maw with a more satiny exterior), together with the gingseng-infused minced meat.

Chicken is specially blended with specific skill till it achieves a smooth yet fine mushy paste where the essence of the poultry and meat is separated. All components synergizes so well that it can easily fool you into thinking that there have been lots of ingredients like bean curd or water chestnut being added to it where in actual fact in only the chicken meat itself. The resulted chicken sauce is then mixed with superior stock before double-boiled with the meat paste and assorted herbs like ginseng rendering it a very flavorful soup with a lock-in soothing aftertaste.
Really love the hearty soup that is so robust in flavour!

BRAISED PORK KNUCKLE & BABY ABALONE WITH SEA MOSS AND SEA CUCUMBER (MYR 298)
A must have in any Lunar celebration, thoroughly braised pork knuckle that was so tenderly done, served with the treasured companion- bouncy bites of abalone, springy and collagen-rich sea cucumber, together with sea moss, which are scarcely found nowadays.

STEAMED & BAKED MOUNTAIN CHICKEN WITH CHINESE HERBS & RED DATES (MYR 168)
Here you go, a whole chicken nutritiously baked with various Chinese traditional herbs, rendering it a much toothsome relish especially with the hint of Chinese cooking wine when enjoying the meat. The chicken has actually been lightly marinated with Hua Tiao wine prior to steam, alongside various Chinese herbs such as wolfberries, tong guai and many more, presenting a saporous savouring moment.

PAN-FRIED RIVER KING PRAWS “VIETNAM” STYLE (MYR 188)
Huge and tastefully spiced river king prawns greet diners the extravaganza way with the golden crown made from molded malt sugar. In order to enjoy it, one first need to pour the accompanied sweet and sour sauce around the crystal globe evenly so that the cage would melt apart gracefully. It’s better to drizzle the sauce soonest the moment it is served, otherwise, the sugar coop would get cold and harden pretty fast and gonna be tough for it to be melted later.

STEWED PRESERVED MEAT WITH ARROWHEAD FRIED RICE (MYR 45)
Always a homey and comfort dish to have, flavourful rice which resembles the lotus rice dish that is pretty common seen in almost all Chinese wedding banquet. This glutinous rice has been deliciously cooked till moist with stewed preserved meat that helps injects more sapidity into each grain of the rice, not forgetting the yearly ingredients, yummy arrowhead.

Last but not least, some Oriental dessert to wrap up the fête on a sweet note!

TRADITIONAL PINEAPPLE TART (MYR 25 for 12 pieces/ MYR 35 for 20 pieces)
Buttery and flaky on the outside, enveloping a moist filling yet not too sweet pineapple paste. These bite-sized fruity pastries would definitely make excellent gifts or even just for your own enjoyment, yum yum!

CHILLED CREAMY OSTMANTHUS CAKE (MYR 26)
Each piece of the morsels is full of floral fragrance!

CHILLED CREAMY RED BEAN CAKE (MYR 26)
Little red beans in between provide some engaging firm bites that are not too sweet nor too hard.

CHILLED CREAMY GREEN TEA CAKE (MYR 26)
Of all, this would have to be my favourite! With the subtle fragrance of the green tea smoothness, it’s something that you can’t say no (=

Time to sooth the happy tummy with some hot Pu Er Sencha, how comforting it is......

VIP rooms are available too for more privacy
